October 12 - 19

Pumpkin Carving Contest!

Pumpkin Carving Contest!

Pick up pumpkins at the shelter and post pictures of your carvings with #hscipumpkins by Saturday, October 19 to be considered for our first ever pumpkin patch carving contest!  All payment for pumpkins will be considered donations and will go to help keep our animals warm and fed in the Fall and Winter months.

Prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will be rewarded based on how many likes and reactions a carving receives, and the winner will be announced by 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 19. Prizes may be picked up by 4:00 pm that day or within the following week.

Bake Sale at Ace Hardware!

Only carvings from children under 12 years of age to be considered for the contest, but all are encouraged to upload and show us what they got!

Facepainting, hot cider, and other Fall fun will be available from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm at our shelter, so please stop by and help us ring in our first pumpkin patch fundraiser!

Spay/Neuter Clinic for Dogs/Puppies ~ This clinic is full!

Spay/Neuter Clinic for Dogs/Puppies

HSCI is having a Spay/Neuter Clinic for Dogs/Puppies on Monday, October 14. The Spay/Neuter Clinic fee is $85 for each Dog or Puppy. Fee includes rabies vaccination. Puppies must be at least eight weeks of age to receive surgery. Puppies under four months of age will not receive a rabies vaccination. Dogs on medication or showing signs of respiratory infections will not be considered for surgery. Dogs will be transported to and from Animal Protective League (APL) in Springfield for spay / neuter.  Details

  • Dogs are dropped off at 7:00 am, Monday, October 14 at the Pet Adoption Center, 423 Kays Drive in Normal. Dogs must be in a hard sided carrier with newspapers in the bottom. One dog per carrier. If you need to borrow a carrier, please call the office in advance to make arrangements to have one available.
  • Dogs will be returned to their owners on Tuesday, October 15 between 8:45 - 9:15 am and are to be picked up from the Pet Adoption Center.
  • Owners must sign a surgery consent form at the time of check-in.

New Volunteer Class

Sunday, October 20 from 10:30 am - 12:00 pm at the Pet Adoption Center for new volunteers. This is your chance to learn about the variety of Volunteer Opportunities available and begin helping HSCI and our pets in a way which fits your interests and schedule. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age to work independently. Volunteers ages 8 to 17 must be accompanied by either a parent or guardian 25 years or older who is also a volunteer and must perform the same tasks. Children under the age of 8 cannot volunteer at the shelter, but can help the animals in other ways by collecting much needed supplies to donate.

Registration fee is $10 for each adult (18 or older) and $5 for each child (ages 8 - 17).  More

Classic Car Trunk or Treat!

Classic Car Trunk or Treat!

Come to the HSCI from 5:00 - 7:00 pm on Saturday, October 26 and join in on our first Trunk or Treat featuring classic cars!

Classic cars and their trunks will be set up in our parking lot with festive Halloween displays, candies and goodies for the young and cool classic cars for the more mature, but costumes are welcome from all.

Swing by and join in on the holiday fun with facepainting, bobbing for apples, and more to come - but the best part is all donations will go to help our animals this Winter!

Come out to our Bake Sale at Ace Hardware at 204 E. College Ave, in Normal, on Saturday, October 26, from 9:00 am - 4:30 pm and pick up some delicious baked goods!  Choose from homemade cakes, pies, cookies, bread, and more!  All proceeds go to the Humane Society of Central Illinois.

Just attend dinner and mention the Humane Society of Central Illinois when you pay for your meal and our animals will be eating well, just like you!

Adopt a Senior Pet Month

November is Adopt a Senior Pet Month!  There are many good reasons to adopt a senior pet. Take a Second Look: Consider Adopting an Adult Cat or Dog. We usually have plenty of adult cats in our Adult Cat Room. Many of our adult cats are included on our Available Cats webpage.

Stop by our Pet Adoption Center to visit all of our adult pets.

Pet Supplies Plus Outreach Please stop by Pet Supplies Plus at 1720 Bradford Lane, Suite 102 in Normal on Sunday, November 3 from 12:00 - 3:00 pm for the Pet Supplies Plus Outreach. We will have an available dog at the event along with information to share about HSCI, and we'll be available for questions.

Please remember our hard-working staff and volunteers during this designated week, November 3 - 9. Our Pet Adoption Center would not be possible without the dedication of many. Prevention of Animal Cruelty Month

In recognition of April as Prevention of Animal Cruelty Month, the ASPCA works with shelters and educators across the country to raise awareness about animal abuse. Did you know that you as an individual can help crack down on cruelty in your community, too? When a concerned citizen reports the abuse of an animal to the proper authorities, he or she is not only helping that particular animal, but a message is being sent that all acts of animal abuse should be taken seriously.
