My husband and I adopted Wookie in April 2004. He has been a joy. He had to train us right after we got him home. My husband and I had never had a dog as a pet. He had to teach us that we needed to pay a little attention to him so he could let us know when he had to go outside. Thank God we were quick studies for him.
Wookie loves to be outside and during his first year with us we played catch-me-if-you-can a lot. We would have to chase him around the yard to get him inside. We soon learned that he thought it was a great game. After a while we decided that we would not chase him unless there was a toy involved. We play with him in the yard now and all we have to do is whistle when we need him to come inside.
We let Wookie have the run of the house except at night when we put him in a crate. We thought he would think of it as punishment but like clock work every night at 8:00 PM he lets us know when he is ready for bed. Our friends claim that he has it better than some people because he has his own room where he sleeps in his crate and he has a toy box. He never climbs on the furniture or chews things that don't belong to him. He is a very smart dog. He barks only when there is activity outside the house or someone knocks on the door. He is a good watch dog. We just love him. He is a wonderful companion and a great pet.
