Amore Amore

Amore & Rocky

Amore's grand life adventure began when she was picked up by animal control as a stray. Luckily for her, she's got "melt your heart eyes" and was transferred to HSCI. Unfortunately for her, the check in process revealed that she had heartworms, which is a nasty condition that literally mean she had worms in her heart, and can be fatal. Luck was again on her side because the people at HSCI decided to treat her and keep her for the four month recovery period, during which it is vital the dog remain calm and fairly inactive. It was during this time that my mom fell in love with her, seeing her and her "melt your heart" eyes in the office every time she went to work. So, having let Amore melt her heart, our family fostered her. I was still reeling from the death of the last heartworm patient we had fostered, and thus kept my distance from Amore. She would have none of that. The stubborn little girl managed to make me love her as much as I loved Oscar.

Over time, Amore became a part of the family and helped heal our still tender hearts. Once she was cleared of heartworms, she was put up for adoption and an effort was made to find her the right home. She didn't go far. Turns out, we loved her far too much to let her go and made her officially ours!  Amore, as silly as she is being a basset hound/German shepherd/pit bull mix, has been a blessing and a joy. It's funny watching her bounce around, enjoying life. She came into my life at a time when I was sure I'd never want to foster another heartworm patient, but now I am so glad she did. We love her so much and wouldn't trade her for anything!  She makes me smile every day, especially in the mornings when I get up and get ready, and she just stares at me like I'm crazy for expecting her to move!  Her expressions and antics never fail to make me smile.

Thank you so much to the Humane Society for treating her of her heartworms, thank you to my mom for making us foster her, and thank you to everyone who has donated to the ASAP Fund, which is designed to help dogs like my Amore so that they can find a happy ending, just like she did!
