Wine and Wags!

Come with us to Mackinaw Valley Vineyard for an exclusive tour, tasting, and trivia game with a silent auction to boot, all for $30 per person!  Just register online for one person, two people, three people or four people, or call us at (309) 451-1000, or visit the shelter during our business hours to get signed up. All proceeds will go to help the animals at the HSCI!

Sunday, February 23 from 1:00 - 4:00 pm. Suggested arrival ~ 12:30 pm

Schedule:

  • 12:30 - 1:00 pm - Arrival and check in
  • 1:00 - 2:00 pm - Tour and Wine Tasting *
  • 2:00 - 4:00 pm - Trivia game with animal centric topics, 10 questions per category, with teams of four or less.
  • 3:45 - 4:00 pm - Silent Auction Close

* A tour and tasting are conducted as follows:

  • Groups tour the workroom located under the tasting room to learn about winemaking and also have a short tour of the vineyards (weather permitting).
  • After the tour a formal tasting of at least six different wines will be conducted, followed by a Q&A with guests about winemaking and Illinois wines.
  • A tour and tasting usually takes about one hour depending on how many questions are asked.

Mackinaw Valley Vineyard is located at 33633 State Route 9 in Mackinaw. The winery is 16 miles west of I-55 on IL Route 9 exit in Bloomington. Take Route 9 west for 16 miles.

The registration deadline for the Wine and Wags event is February 22 at 2:00 pm.

HSCI is having a Spay/Neuter Clinic for Dogs/Puppies on Monday, February 24. The Spay/Neuter Clinic fee is $100 for each Dog or Puppy. Fee includes rabies vaccination. Puppies must be at least eight weeks of age to receive surgery. Puppies under four months of age will not receive a rabies vaccination. Dogs on medication or showing signs of respiratory infections will not be considered for surgery. Dogs will be transported to and from Animal Protective League (APL) in Springfield for spay / neuter.  Details

  • Dogs are dropped off at 7:00 am, Monday, February 24 at the Pet Adoption Center, 423 Kays Drive in Normal. Dogs must be in a hard sided carrier with newspapers in the bottom. One dog per carrier. If you need to borrow a carrier, please call the office in advance to make arrangements to have one available.
  • Dogs will be returned to their owners on Tuesday, February 25 between 8:45 - 9:15 am and are to be picked up from the Pet Adoption Center.
  • Owners must sign a surgery consent form at the time of check-in.

Animal Tails!

An evening of wild and woolly tales (and tails)!

The February Next to Normal - Story Slam features stories from the animal kingdom.

All proceeds from the evening will go to our animals at the Humane Society of Central Illinois. Join us on Friday, February 28 at 7:30 pm at McLean County Arts Center.

Light refreshments will be served and you are invited to bring a beverage of your choice. $5 donation suggested to benefit the HSCI.

This is your chance to learn about the variety of Volunteer Opportunities available and begin helping HSCI and our pets in a way which fits your interests and schedule. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age to work independently. Volunteers ages 8 to 17 must be accompanied by either a parent or guardian 25 years or older who is also a volunteer and must perform the same tasks. Children under the age of 8 cannot volunteer at the shelter, but can help the animals in other ways by collecting much needed supplies to donate.

Registration fee is $10 for each adult (18 or older) and $5 for each child (ages 8 - 17).  More

HSCI is having a Low Income Spay/Neuter Clinic for Cats/Kittens only on Monday, March 23. The Spay/Neuter Clinic fee is $35 for each Cat or Kitten. Kittens must be at least eight weeks of age and two pounds to receive surgery. Cats may be transported to an offsite vet or spay/neuter clinic.  Details

Appointments are required and space is limited. Visit a Low Income Spay/Neuter Clinic Registration webpage for One Cat, Two Cats, or Three Cats to register and pay online, or call our office at (309) 451-1000 to sign-up and register for this clinic. Payment in advance is required.

  • Withhold all food after midnight on Sunday, March 22.
  • Cats are dropped off on Monday, March 23 between 7:00 - 7:30 am at the Pet Adoption Center, 423 Kays Drive in Normal. Cats must be in a hard sided carrier with a towel in the bottom. One cat per carrier. If you need to borrow a carrier(s), please call the office in advance to make arrangements for pick-up.
  • Cats are to be picked up from the Pet Adoption Center on Tuesday, March 24 between 8:30 - 9:00 am.

To speed up the check-in process, please print the Animal Surgery Consent Form for Spay/Neuter, and bring a completed form, for each cat, with you at the time of check-in.

April is Prevention of Animal Cruelty Month

Prevention of Animal Cruelty Month

In recognition of April as Prevention of Animal Cruelty Month, the ASPCA works with shelters and educators across the country to raise awareness about animal abuse. Did you know that you as an individual can help crack down on cruelty in your community, too? When a concerned citizen reports the abuse of an animal to the proper authorities, he or she is not only helping that particular animal, but a message is being sent that all acts of animal abuse should be taken seriously.

Ice Cream Social and Concert

Join us for an old-fashioned Ice Cream Social at Franklin Park, Prairie and Chestnut Streets in Bloomington on Thursday, July 23. Our desserts, ice cream and soda will be available from 6:00 - 7:00 pm.

Then, sit back and enjoy the toe-tapping melodies from the Community Band's concert from 7:00 - 8:00 pm. Bring lawn chairs and your dogs if you wish!

All proceeds go directly to the Humane Society of Central Illinois to support the pets.

Adopt a Senior Pet Month

November is Adopt a Senior Pet Month!  There are many good reasons to adopt a senior pet. Take a Second Look: Consider Adopting an Adult Cat or Dog.

We usually have plenty of adult cats in our Adult Cat Room. Many of our adult cats are included on our Available Cats webpage.

National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week

Please remember our hard-working staff and volunteers during this designated week, November 1 - 7. Our Pet Adoption Center would not be possible without the dedication of many.

Show your support this week with a note, a token of appreciation, or a donation to help support the pets.

Another easy way to support us is by raving about our work and our animals to friends, neighbors, co-workers and anyone else. We need your support.

Spay/Neuter Clinic for Dogs/Puppies

Spay/Neuter Clinic for Dogs/Puppies

HSCI is having a Spay/Neuter Clinic for Dogs/Puppies on Monday, November 9. The Spay/Neuter Clinic fee is $100 for each Dog or Puppy. Fee includes rabies vaccination. Puppies must be at least eight weeks of age to receive surgery. Puppies under four months of age will not receive a rabies vaccination. Dogs on medication or showing signs of respiratory infections will not be considered for surgery. Dogs will be transported to and from Animal Protective League (APL) in Springfield for spay / neuter.  Details

Appointments are required and space is limited. Please visit the Spay/Neuter Clinic for Dogs/Puppies - Registration webpage to register and pay online, or call our office at (309) 451-1000 to sign-up and register for this clinic. Payment in advance is required.

  • Dogs are dropped off at 7:00 am, Monday, November 9 at the Pet Adoption Center, 423 Kays Drive in Normal. Dogs must be in a hard sided carrier with newspapers in the bottom. One dog per carrier. If you need to borrow a carrier, please call the office in advance to make arrangements to have one available.
  • Dogs will be returned to their owners on Tuesday, November 10 between 8:45 - 9:15 am and are to be picked up from the Pet Adoption Center.
  • Owners must sign a surgery consent form at the time of check-in.

Thursday, November 26

Office Closed / No Pet Viewing Hours ~ Thanksgiving Day

The office will be closed and there will be no pet viewing hours on Thursday, November 26 for the Thanksgiving holiday. However, volunteers are welcome to come and help the Animal Care team from 7:00 am - 5:00 pm.

Bake Sale at Ace Hardware!

Come out to our Christmas Bake Sale at Ace Hardware at 204 E. College Ave, in Normal, on Saturday, December 12 from 9:00 am - 4:30 pm. Pick up some sweets for your family!  Many delicious baked goods to choose from. All proceeds go to HSCI.

Bakers are needed for our Bake Sales!  If you can bake cookies or other items, please email Peggy or call her at (309) 828-0662. Do not leave a message, be sure to talk with Peggy.
